About
Infrastructure for agents.
Software is increasingly written, run, and read by agents — not just people. But the tools we use to create and share information still assume a human on both ends. The Data Company is building the infrastructure for a world where humans and agents work side by side.
Start with the document layer
We’re starting where collaboration starts: documents. Google Docs made writing together effortless — for humans. But it’s hostile to the things developers and agents actually live in: Markdown, version control, the command line.
mdocsis Google Docs for Markdown, built for humans and agents alike. The same document is live in your browser and your terminal at once — real-time multiplayer editing for people, a first-class CLI and API for agents, and a server-side 3-way merge so everyone’s changes land cleanly. Google Docs is built for humans. mdocs is built for humans and agents.
Then the data itself
The document layer is the first piece. We’re extending the same idea to the data that powers AI itself — tooling to capture, shape, and refine the agent traces and training data teams depend on, straight from the terminal. The throughline is simple: make the data and documents we all rely on work as well for agents as they do for people.
Built in the open
mdocs is open source — self-host it for free — and we run a hosted version with usage-based pricing, never per seat. We build in the open and ship small, fast, and often.
